| Pioneers 9-5 Losers to Gothams | The New York Gothams defeated the St. Louis Pioneers, 9-5, at Gotham Stadium. Red Johnson, who finished 2nd in the FA in home runs with 31 in 1944, was a standout performer for New York. His 2 hits included 1 single and 1 double -- this in addition to the 3 runs he scored and 1 he knocked in. Jorge Arellano picked up the win with 9 innings of work. He allowed 5 runs on 7 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 4. On the season, he is now 1-6. The win gives New York a season record of 16-16.
Ray Miller had a big 2-run double for the Gothams in the bottom of the first inning. With New York leading 1-0 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from Ollie White, who finished 5th in the CA in strikeouts with 122 in 1951, and swatted a double to left-center. It was his 1st double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Gothams ahead, 3-0.
"I keep on showing up every day and trying to put up good at-bats and find good pitches to hit," said Johnson.
