Cannons Win, 4-2, Versus Kansas City | Starting pitcher Hal Miller fulfilled his part of the bargain, helping the Cincinnati Cannons stymie the Kansas City Kings, 4-2. Miller, now 3-3, was the winner. In 8.2 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 8, walking 3, and allowing 2 runs. Paul Williams, who finished 5th in the CA in saves with 9 in 1954, nailed down the save.
Dallas Berry came through with a big-time hit for Cincinnati. The center fielder smacked a solo home run in the top of the eighth inning to give his team the lead, 2-1. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
Berry expressed little emotion after the game. "Every game we win now," he said, "is one less win we'll need to get in the end."
Losses have been few and far between for the Kings so far this season. Their record drops to 18-9. | |
