Millers Nip Gothams, 4-3 | Minneapolis beat New York on the strength of starting pitcher Don Hillshire's fine effort. The right-hander led his team to a win, 4-3. Minneapolis reliever John Stallings, who is a three-time All-Star, was credited with the win. His record goes to 1-0. Bill Howard took the loss for New York. The 8th-place Millers are 18-22.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when Minneapolis pinch hitter Bill Ingraham, facing Bill Howard, had a run-scoring walk. It gave the Millers the 4-3 win.
"I was a little disappointed," said New York manager Bert Carlton. "We could've and should've scored more runs." | |
