Kings Win Nail-Biter | The Kansas City Kings picked up a win at Cougars Park, knocking off the Chicago Cougars, 5-4, in 10 innings. Starting pitcher Jack Halbur played a key role in the triumph. Kansas City reliever Del Lamb snagged the win, upping his record to 7-2. Arch Wilson shouldered the loss. Fred Myers recorded the save, making him 5 for 6.
Kansas City used the timely hitting of Bill Guthrie to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a 2-run single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Kings on top, 5-3. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
In postgame remarks, Halbur simply said: "Here's to a great win!"
The first-place Kings, at 63-33, now lead their division by 3½ games. | |
