| Saints Suffer 7-4 Loss to Cougars | Jerry Smith helped his team muscle past the Montreal Saints, 7-4. In the game, the Chicago right fielder went 2-3 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Donnie Jones earned the win. Max Edwards, who finished 3rd in the FA in ERA with 3.19 in 1953, took the loss for Montreal. Picking up his 20th save was five-time All-Star David Molina.
Chicago third baseman Buddy Schneider contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the third. With two down, he hit a changeup to left field for a 2-run single. It was his 83rd hit of the season and put the Cougars ahead, 4-0.
"In baseball, you have your ups and downs," said Montreal manager Tom Paul. "You just try to stay level-headed the whole time."
The Cougars now own a record of 58-59.
