Barrell Leads Stars to Win | The 1962 season is getting uglier for New York.
The Los Angeles Stars beat the New York Imperials, 12-3, at Dyckman Stadium. The Stars got a fine performance from second baseman Charlie Barrell, who went 3 for 3 with a home run, 2 singles, and 2 walks, while scoring 4 runs. Sy Dunn was the winner. He's now 4-2. The loser was 32-year old right-handed pitcher Jimmy Morris.
Los Angeles used the hitting of Lou Allen to pick up the win. The right fielder clubbed a 3-run home run in the top of the first inning to put the Stars on top, 3-0. For the game, Allen had 1 home run and 2 singles in 5 at-bats.
"If I do my job, we've usually got a good chance to win the game," said Allen.
New York now owns a losing streak of 7 games. | |
