| Chiefs Tagged with 4-3 Loss | The Washington Eagles topped the Chicago Chiefs, 4-3, in Federal Association action at Whitney Park. The standout performance belonged to Washington pitcher and Boston, Massachusetts, native Bob Haverhill. Jim Heitzman earned his 5th save, after closing out the game. With this game in the books, Washington is 55-56, Chicago 57-54.
Jesse Alvardo dealt the Chiefs a blow in the top of the fifth. Batting with runners on 2nd and 3rd and Washington leading 3-1, Alvardo, who finished 2nd in the FA in extra base hits with 67 in 1951, hit a 0-1 slider for a run-scoring single.
"That's what good pitchers do," said Washington manager Pete Molyneaux. "They find a way."
