The Cougars got a fine performance from center fielder Jerry McMillan, who was 2-5 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. John Mitchell, the winner, goes to 3-1. He allowed 4 runs on 7 hits, with 1 walk and 2 strikeouts over 6 innings. Pug White earned the save, his 12th, for the Cougars.
Chicago took a 6-4 lead on McMillan's 12th double of the season. The run-scoring double, which he hit off Sy Dunn in the bottom of the sixth, propelled Chicago to the win.
"You need to show up when your number's called," said McMillan.
The win hiked the Chicago record to 47-34.
