Wolves Swat Wranglers, 11-0 | The Toronto Wolves handed the Dallas Wranglers a sound defeat, 11-0, at Norris Stadium. Phil Story, who is tied for 3rd in the CA in triples with 7, was a main contributor to the win. He went 3 for 4 with a home run, a triple, a double, and a walk. He scored 3 times and drove in 2 for Toronto. Arnie Smith, the 4th overall pick in the 1958 draft, was the winning pitcher. Over 5.2 innings, he allowed no runs on 4 hits, with 3 walks and 1 strikeout. The win lifted the Toronto record to 41-40.
Toronto won the game in part because of Tom Reed. The left fielder ripped a bases-clearing double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Wolves ahead, 9-0. For the game, Reed had 1 double and 1 home run in 4 at-bats.
"We hit the ball hard," said Toronto manager Randy Hohlt. "Line drive after line drive." | |
