Gothams Pull Out Late-Game Win, 5-4
The New York Gothams weathered a fine game by Chicago right fielder Rod Shearer to upend the Chiefs, 5-4, at Gotham Stadium. Shearer was 2 for 4 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3. The winning pitcher was 23-year old left-handed pitcher Jorge Arellano. He tossed 130 pitches over 8 innings, allowing 4 runs on 9 hits. John Stallings earned the save, his 2nd, for the Gothams.

Denver, Colorado-born Josh Porter came through in the clutch. In the bottom of the eighth, with runners on 2nd and 3rd and the Gothams trailing 4-3, he hit a 2-run single to left to put New York on top.

"If you want to be considered a good team, these are the kind of games you have to win," said New York manager Ad Doria.

New York is in 5th place in the Federal Association with a record of 49-47.
