Saints Get Clutch Win Versus Chicago | The Montreal Saints banked on Phil Murry and he turned in a masterful performance. The left-hander kept the Chicago hitters in check. The final score was 2-1, Saints. Hank Myer picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 2-2. Bob Allen, who led the FA in saves with 20 in 1959, was tagged with the loss. The Saints, at 33-45, have now won 4 straight.
Montreal got a knockout punch from Bob Vernon. The second baseman hammered a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to win the game. It might've been his only hit, but it decided the outcome.
"It wasn't easy, but we got it done," said Vernon. | |
