Stars Need Extra Frames to Get Past Foresters
The Los Angeles Stars, despite a fine performance by Cleveland pitcher Hugh Blumenthal, grabbed a 3-1 win in 12 innings at Forester Stadium. Blumenthal allowed 1 run over 9 innings. Frank Nichols earned the save, his 1st, for the Stars. The 'W' lifts Los Angeles's record to 44-51.

Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Paul Watson? The 28-year old shortstop Watson stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the 12th inning to put Los Angeles up, 2-1. For the game, he was 4 for 6, including 2 doubles and 2 singles.

"Tough loss," said Cleveland manager Art Newton. "But that's how the cookie crumbles."
