Miners Earn Late Win | New York got a valiant performance from pitcher Clarence Reimer, but it wasn't enough to beat the Pittsburgh Miners. Pittsburgh won the game, 2-1. Reimer threw 8.0 innings of 6-hit ball for the losing team. Pittsburgh reliever Frank Maxwell was the winner. His record is now 3-1. Clarence Reimer took the loss. Pittsburgh, now 11-18, is off to a slow start.
Batting in the bottom of the ninth, 1961 FA batting champion Frank Selander had a real shot to win the game. New York pitcher Clarence Reimer was determined not to let it happen. But with no outs, Selander hit a 2-run single. The Miners had a walk-off triumph.
