| Saints Popped by Sailors, 6-1 | San Francisco got a strong outing from Win Lewis as the Sailors defeated the Montreal Saints, 6-1, at Golden Gate Stadium. The winning pitcher was Lewis, now 1-0. He tossed 7 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 4. Dan Atwater earned the save, his 1st.
The Sailors got a big at-bat from catcher Tom Cooprider. For the game, Cooprider went 1 for 3 with a double and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. In the bottom of the first, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 1st double of the season gave San Francisco a 3-1 lead.
"It's so much easier when you throw good pitches," said Lewis.
The loss has the Saints at 1-1.
