Sailors Tack 7-4 Loss on Stars | Good production from first baseman Bill Guthrie helped the San Francisco Sailors topple the Los Angeles Stars, 7-4. Guthrie went 3 for 5 with a double and 2 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once for the Sailors. The winner was Dan Atwater, who threw 108 pitches over 8 innings. The right-hander was charged with 4 runs on 10 hits. Davey Chamberlain earned the save, his 2nd.
In the top of the first, Guthrie had a 2-run double for San Francisco. It was his 4th double of the season and put the Sailors on top, 2-0.
"If it's down the middle," said Guthrie, "you might as well hit it."
The Stars, now 6-11, continue their inauspicious start. | |
