Minutemen Suffer 4-2 Home Loss | The Boston Minutemen faced a tough opponent in St. Louis pitcher Frenchy Mack, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Pioneer Field III by a final score of 4-2. Mack went 9 innings and allowed 4 runs. Dick Wilson, who finished 5th in the FA in saves with 11 in 1955, was the winner. He's now 2-0. The loser was Frenchy Mack. Augie Jones got credit for the save for Boston. It was his 2nd of the year.
Bill Newhall, who finished 5th in the FA in batting average with .333 in 1955, had a direct impact on the outcome. Newhall contributed a 2-run single in the top of the fifth inning to put Boston up, 3-1.
"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Boston manager Bill Freeman. "It's usually not just one thing."
The 8th-place Minutemen go to 24-37. | |
