Cougars Absorb 7-4 Loss at Golden Gate Stadium | Despite a fine performance by right fielder Henry Watson, the Chicago Cougars lost to the San Francisco Sailors, 7-4. Watson went 2-3 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. Eddie Chapman earned the save, his 7th. The triumph puts San Francisco at 33-28 for the season.
San Francisco right fielder Herbert Crawford Jr. contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the first. With two down, he hit a changeup to right-center field for a 2-run single. It was his 8th hit of the season and put the Sailors ahead, 4-0.
In postgame comments to the San Francisco Chronicle, Crawford Jr. said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come." | |
