Dynamos Win Thriller, 5-2 | Virgil Ewing impressed in the 5-2 Detroit win over Philadelphia. Ewing, who finished 4th in the CA in RBI with 112 in 1961, went 3 for 4 with a home run and a triple, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Larry Beebe, now 1-0, was credited with the win in 2 innings of relief. He allowed no runs on 1 hit, while striking out 0 and walking 2. Detroit has an impressive 39-20 record.
The game was still up for grabs in the bottom of the ninth. With no one out, Ewing hit a cutter from Joe Potts for a 3-run home run. The Dynamos, in dramatic fashion, had a walk-off win.
"We've got a great group of guys," Ewing said, "and we're having fun right now." | |
