| Cougars Better Stars, 4-3 | Cougars Park was the site of an exciting ballgame between the Chicago Cougars and Los Angeles Stars.
The Chicago Cougars picked up a win at Cougars Park, knocking off the Los Angeles Stars, 4-3. On the mound for Chicago was right-hander Donnie Jones. He played a key role in the triumph. Jones, who finished 3rd in the CA in strikeouts with 140 in 1949, went the distance for Chicago. He gave up 3 runs on 8 hits.
The Cougars got a big at-bat from right fielder Jerry Smith. For the game, Smith was 1-4 with a home run. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. In the bottom of the sixth, with runners on 1st and 3rd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 17th home run of the season gave Chicago a 3-1 lead.
After the game, Chicago manager Doc Woods applauded the team's effort. "They busted their humps out there," he said.
Chicago is now 37-35.
