Minutemen Trip Eagles, 4-3, in Extra Innings
Boston starter Pepper Tuttle pitched well against the Washington Eagles at Columbia Stadium. The right-hander led his team to a win, 4-3, in 13 innings. Reliever Alf Keeter picked up the win. His record improves to 1-0. Dan Everett, who finished 4th in the FA in ERA with 3.08 in 1949, took the loss. Wally Doyle earned the save, his 1st.

Bill Van Ness had a direct impact on the outcome. Van Ness contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the 13th inning to put Boston up, 4-3.

"A lot to like, just frustrated that we came up short," said Washington manager Pete Molyneaux.

The Eagles, 7-7, continue their so-so start to the 1954 season.
