Chiefs Take Nail-Biter Over Gothams | Chicago Chiefs starter Joe Cipolla pitched his team past the New York Gothams in 12 innings, 1-0. Tom Fisher, now 1-0, was credited with the win in 1 innings of relief. He allowed no runs on 1 hit, while striking out 1 and walking 0. Chicago currently is in second place in the Federal Association at 36-27.
The climactic moment came in the bottom of the 12th for Chicago. That's when Ed Bloom, who finished 5th in the FA in doubles with 30 in 1952, hit a run-scoring double off Chet Stansbury to win the game. The home crowd erupted in celebration.
