| Chiefs Make It 4 Straight with 5-1 Win | The Chicago Chiefs went home winners at Whitney Park, thanks in large part to starter Mel Haynes. Haynes stifled the New York Gothams, enabling Chicago to grab the 5-1 win. Haynes, the winner, moves to 5-4. He threw 7.2 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 2 and giving up 3 walks. The Chiefs now own a record of 35-28.
Ed Bloom dealt the Gothams a blow in the bottom of the second. Batting with runners on 2nd and 3rd and Chicago leading 1-0, Bloom, who finished 5th in the FA in doubles with 30 in 1952, hit a 0-2 cutter for a 2-run single.
"I like seeing our guys get a return on what they've put in," said Chicago manager Dutch Becker.
