Cougars Suffer 5-4 Home Loss | The Chicago Cougars and Montreal Saints played an entertaining game for Stade Montreal patrons.
Chicago first baseman Gene Case played a vital role in his team's 5-4 conquest of Montreal. He belted 2 home runs for Chicago. Hank Walker picked up the win, lifting his record to 3-2 on the season. He struck out 3 and walked 4 in 6 innings, while yielding 4 runs.
Tom Halliday had a big 2-run triple for the Cougars in the top of the second inning. With Chicago leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a fastball from Jim Montgomery, who finished 4th in the CA in strikeouts with 197 in 1957, and swatted a triple to right-center. It was his 1st triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Cougars ahead, 3-0.
"I like the grit of this ballclub," Halliday said.
The Cougars win now puts them at 27-23. | |
