Keystones Decked By Miners, 12-2
At Broad Street Park II, the Philadelphia Keystones and Pittsburgh Miners were greeted by an enthusiastic crowd.

Pittsburgh right fielder Bill Newhall helped his team beat the Philadelphia Keystones, 12-2. Newhall, who finished 4th in the FA in doubles with 31 in 1956, went 3 for 5 for the Miners. Jimmy Blair picked up the win with 7.2 innings of work. He allowed 2 runs on 9 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 8. On the season, he is now 2-7.

Pittsburgh used a clutch at-bat from Mike Whisman to capture the win. The center fielder hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Miners ahead, 4-0. It was his lone hit in 6 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.

Philadelphia manager Don Fox called the blowout loss "not what we wanted."

The Miners improved their record to 28-31 with the win over Philadelphia.
